Resveratrol falls into the category of phytonutrients called polyphenols (a type of antioxidant). This category also includes phytonutrients like EGCG found in green tea, and curcumin found in turmeric.
Antioxidants, like those found in Trans-Resveratrol, help protect the body from free radical damage, or oxidation. Our bodies can be exposed to free radicals from our internal reactions like in energy production, or external sources like chemical exposure from pesticides, air and water pollution, alcohol and tobacco. As these free radicals move through our bodies, they can cause damage. Think of it as a bit like rusting. Our Trans-Resveratrol is sourced from the Giant Knotweed plant, which is native to northeastern Asian and far eastern Russia.
